Buying Astra Hammond 1467 Louvers Mustang 2005

I recommend this for those on a tight car budget. This adds a nice look to the car, but I will warn you that it fits tight under the trunk lid and may rub paint from the surface unless you put some foam tape where the lid closes. The problems I have from mine is the install makes quite a challenge to get it in place correctly (you WILL need two-three people and the trunk lid has to be half-open). The instructions have you mark spots on the window, while I found that quite difficult the way this thing mounts. I suggest cleaning with alcohol, pull the tape backing, and TWO people hover it above the window, while a third moves the trunk lid to check for clearance to shut it. The warnings include no auto washes except touchless (the toweled ones can catch this thing and rip it apart) and allow for a good amont of cure time (I ran the a/c full hot for about 30 minutes blowing on the back glass to speed cure time with the car in the garage overnight). You can see pretty well out the back, contrary to popular belief. I like mine except after a few months the foam padding underneath starts separating from the plastic and the sun beating down on the louvers makes the bow upward somewhat when hot. I think this is exaggerated when wind starts catching it during driving. The fasteners are no more than stainless plates with thread welded on, stainless washers, and PLASTIC nuts that look similar to those you thread onto your valve stems of your tires. Bang-for-your buck in a 1-5 rating? I give it a low 4. I'm not impressed, but it was cheap and looks good. These letters are perfect, they really make the back end of your mustang look really good. I have always wondered why ford creates the indents for the letters "mustang" but they don't color them in. However, you can just spend a few bucks on these stickers and all is good. I wan't expecting these stickers to look this good, but now whenever I see a mustang without these letters it drives me nuts because it just looks so much better with the stickers. As far as putting them on it was very easy just spray the area with baby oil/water mixture and then stick them on while it is wet and let it dry. I've had these on my car for over a year now and they haven't bubbled up or started peeling off or anything. Certainly not a 'must have' option on the Mustangs, and it would have been nice had Ford made the taillights sequential on all the Mustangs, but it's a nice little upgrade to do.
Took me less than half an hour to do both taillights, removing the rear-most trunk panel (four clips and two large plastic screws) makes it very easy, three nuts on each taillite, disconnect the harness, pull the taillite off, swap the bulbs over, put the new harness on, push the harness grommet in, (needs a little fiddling) and then put back together. It is SO easy, all the taillight bulbs are the same, so you can't even do that wrong. I used an 11mm socket and a small screwdriver.
Now I have sequential lights, and even the remote lock feature blinks the lights sequentially on both sides.

Coming home to this package sitting on my front porch made my day. In fact, after the painless 2-3 hours spent installing it and then being able to review the results, I think it made my month.

The only negative aspect of this experience is that I had to file down a portion of my fuse box in order for their cables to be able to enter the box correctly, however the instructions explain this step clearly so at least I wasn't surprised.

The installation is a breeze. I took my time and re-read every step to ensure that I was doing it right and the entire process only took about 2 1/2 hours. You may need a fairly long-necked flat screwdriver to get to the grille connectors and release them.

The one part that confused me for a couple of moments:
When it is time to bring the wiring into the cockpit, the Street Scene instructions are a bit vague. Once you are done with fastening the wiring along the driver's side of the engine compartment, the boot that you will use to enter is directly below you in the driver's corner of the engine compartment. You'll have to drop the wire directly down into an enclosed area and then fish it through from inside the vehicle. Not difficult, just confusing at first.

Also, be careful attaching the fog lamps to the grille assembly. I used a power screwdriver to attach them and the mountings on the lamps are easy to snap if you over-tighten them.

I bought this grille here...from JW Custom Accessories. The seller is excellent - shipping was fast, and when I contacted them about a missing part (the Pony emblem and mount) - their response was friendly, professional, and the part was in my hands two days later. Will definitely buy from them again.
The grille itself is quite nice, the pony emblem looks good. The material feels like, or close to, stock. Very solid. My only issue is that the two foglight housings aren't quite even in the front (they point out very slightly), so the lights don't fit quite flush inside. The good news is that the lights themselves align properly. In reality - unless you're right up at the grille staring at the edges of the lights - you don't notice the slight offset in the housings.
For installation - I took the instructions that came with the grille...read the instructions in the preceeding comment...and came up with a third method. I tried removing the bumper - but didn't have the proper work space to remove the nuts that hold the bumper to the fender inside. The preceeding instructions are correct, but I found getting at the bottom grill clips to be difficult. The following is what worked for me...I won't repeat the rest of the directions.
I found that to remove the grille...I was best off removing the splash pan from under the car to get at the bottom clips. 4 screws under the bumper, three screws under the engine - and it dropped out. By jacking the car up slightly...I was able to get underneath and easily see and reach all 4 clips on the bottom of the grille.
For installing the lights in the new grille - I found that the provided screws that you're supposed to use wouldn't grip in the inner top mounting points. I ended up using two of the stock screws, and they worked fine.
The grille came with the bright white light bulbs - something I didn't want. I looked at the "custom" bulbs that came with the grille...and noticed that someone had just cut two of the three plastic tabs off the collar. (Actually...one was cut and the other wasn't. Add this to the missing emblem when I first got the kit - 3D needs to work on QC).
Since the bulbs looked to be difficult to change after the grille was in - I bought a new pair of stock bulbs, used a nipper to trim them, and they installed just like the bright white bulbs.
Once I tested the bulbs, wiring, etc - the grille snapped in and I put the splash pan back on.
